Sarputi

Puntius sarana is a commercial barb species with high market value for its high biological value in India, Bangladesh as well as in other South East Asian countries, which prefers shallow waters of floodplains for breeding . This fish was abundantly available in our open water systems like rivers, haors, baors, beels and natural depression in the past but due to over exploitation and various ecological changes in its natural habitat; this species is in the verge of extinction. The development of artificial breeding techniques and larval rearing methods are the tools to develop the pond culture techniques of this species.
